Thoughts & Policy on Education

Education is the spark that lights the mind. Because our economy is increasingly information based, it’s absolutely vital that education begin as early as possible, and continue for a lifetime.

We can’t just wish for improvements in our schools, we need a plan for success. I have a plan that helps all of our children through all stages of their education, pre-k to grad school.

We triumphed over vouchers with a zeal rarely seen. It’s time to use that same enthusiasm to overcome the everyday problems in Utah’s education system. I promise to do just that and together we’ll make progress.

in MY FIRST TERM I WILL work on legislation to

• Provide universal access to Pre-K & fully fund Head Start for all of Utah’s children.

• Reduce class size and raise teacher salaries through responsible budgeting.

• Prevent budget shortfalls by stopping the shift of education funding from a property tax base to a sales tax base.

• Hold the line on tuition at the University of Utah while promoting recruitment and retention of our top notch professors.
